San Diego's Huston Street limped off the field following his 21st save of the season on Friday and Saturday he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf.
After Pittsburgh's Michael McKendry grounded to first base with two outs in the ninth on Friday, San Diego first baseman Yonder Alonso fielded the ball and waved Street off. However, as Street came off the mound, he starting limping. You can see the play here.
After Friday's game, Padres manager Bud Black said he thought the injury was "going to put him out for a while," according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Street, 29, is making his second trip to the DL this season, missing most of May with a right shoulder strain.
When Street was on the DL, Dale Thayer served as the team's closer. The Padres could also turn to Luke Gregerson to close out games.
The Padres recalled right-hander Cory Burns, 24, from Triple-A to take Street's roster spot. Burns made his big-league debut on Aug. 4, but was sent back to the minors after throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He's 1-2 with a 3.14 ERA and three saves in 54 appearances at Triple-A Tucson.
