You'll recall that Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler recently bruised his ribs while sliding into/flopping in the general direction of third base (HT: Drew Sheppard) ...

Now, the Rangers have placed Kinsler on the 15-day DL, and to take his spot on the active roster they've recalled infielder Jurickson Profar. That Profar would be promoted in the event of a roster move involving Kinsler was first reported by CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.

Profar entered the season as the top overall prospect in all of baseball according to both Baseball America and MLB.com. This season, Profar, who's still just 20 years of age, is batting .278/.370/.438 with 13 extra-base hits and six steals for Triple-A Round Rock. Last season, Profar received a September call-up to Arlington, during which he batted .176/.176/.471 over 17 plate appearances.

As for Kinsler, he'll be missed: The eight-year vet owns a 2013 slash line of .302/.369/.500.
