The Rays just lost their ace defender. USATSI

The Rays already have their most reliable offensive player on the disabled list, and they'll surely soon to be adding their best defender.

All-everything center fielder Kevin Kiermaier missed on a diving attempt against the Tigers on Saturday in the bottom of the fifth inning and immediately reacted in obvious pain (MLB.com has the video).

He was removed from the game, and now there's this:

Kiermaier is hitting .236 with a .754 OPS but, again, his value is on the defensive side. He won the Platinum Glove last season as the best defensive player in the AL and makes amazing catches look easy. Desmond Jennings goes to center field for the time being, and he's a step backward in the field.

There's obviously no word yet as to a timetable since Kiermaier hasn't even seen the hand specialist yet, but it's hard to see him avoiding a DL stint with a broken hand.
