The Atlanta Braves have traded right-handed pitcher Todd Redmond to the Cincinnati Reds for shortstop Paul Janish, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reported.

After losing shortstops Andrelton Simmons and Jack Wilson to injuries and recalling Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett, and with Martin Prado starting at shortstop on Saturday afternoon, the Braves needed to make a move.

Janish has spent the season with Triple-A Louisville, batting .237/.332/.391 in 49 games and 169 at-bats. In 114 games for the Redsin 2011, Janish hit .214/.259/.262. As you can see, he hasn't been acquired for his bat.

Redmond is a career minor-leaguer. He's 6-6 in 18 starts this season with Triple-A Gwinnett, with a 3.58 ERA. Opponents are hitting .262 against him, and he's struck out 96 batters in 105.2 innings.

Redmond has been acquired to help out the Reds' rotation in Triple-A Louisville.

Update: Janish will report to the Braves on Sunday and should be in the lineup, tweeted The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien. A corresponding roster move hasn't yet been announced.
