The Angels had themselves a fun Saturday night, scoring 21 runs on 22 hits against the Red Sox. Impressive, right? Perhaps more so than you realize, since the Angels' barrage did not include a Mike Trout run batted in.

How is that possible? Here's how: C.J. Cron and Carlos Perez had career nights.

Lotta crooked numbers here. CBS Sports

Cron was the standout, going 6 for 6 with two home runs and five RBI. With that effort, he became the first big-league player to go 6 for 6 since 2014. He was also the second player in franchise history to pull the feat, joining Chone Figgins, who did it back in 2007 -- albeit without a home run, it should be noted.

Cron seems to love the first week of July in general, since last July 4 he recorded his only other game with five or more runs batted in: he knocked in six. Perhaps we should go ahead and ink him in for five or six RBI come next, say, July 3?

If Cron was the star, then Perez was the next-closest thing, as he went 5 for 6 with a home run of his own. Perez had the opportunity to join Cron in the 6-for-6 club, but flew out instead.

Anyway, throw in Albert Pujols (who also homered), and those three combined for 13 hits and 16 RBI. Pretty good, pretty good -- to the extent that the Angels' 21 runs tied for the second-most in franchise history, and were the most they'd scored in more than a decade:

Date Runs Opponent
08/25/79 24 Blue Jays
08/25/04 21 Royals
04/30/02 21 Indians
06/29/95 20 Rangers
06/20/80 20 Red Sox

Of course, the nature of such an offensive outburst is that we focus on both sides of the spectrum: the good and the bad. Cron and Perez were undoubtedly the good. The bad? As it turns out, that was limited to left field. Daniel Nava, Shane Robinson, and Jefry Marte collectively went 0 for 7. Presumably they have a 7-for-7 game coming somewhere down the road to balance things out.

The good news, though, is none of those guys have to feel too bad about themselves. How could they, on a night when the Angels scored 21 runs?
