Twins closer Matt Capps could be headed back to the disabled list, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said on Sunday.
During his weekly radio show Sunday morning, Gardenhire said Capps felt sore Sunday morning after pitching for the first time in more than a week on Saturday. Capps had been sidelined with soreness in his right shoulder and hadn't pitched since June 15. Capps will likely have an MRI when the team returns to Minnesota, Gardenhire said on the radio (via the Star-Tribune).
With the Twins trailing 5-0, Gardenhire brought Capps in on Saturday against the Reds and his closer gave up a run on a hit and a walk, while striking out one. He threw 23 pitches.
Left-hander Glen Perkins has recorded the team's last two saves before Sunday, including Friday's victory over the Reds. Right-hander Jared Burton earned the save on Sunday against the Reds, the first of his career.
