Tyler Greene traded from Cardinals to Astros

Infielder Tyler Greene has been traded from the Cardinals to the Astros in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations, both clubs have announced.

Infielder Tyler Greene has been traded from the Cardinals to the Astros in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations, both clubs have announced. (If you're wondering how trades can be made after the "trade deadline," click here).

To make room for Greene, the Astros have designated Brian Bixler for assignment.

This move is interesting because of Greene's recent struggles prompting St. Louis fans to boo him. In fact, he said the following of the fans who were displeased with him Tuesday night:

"Then don't come to the game. Just cheer for your team. That's all I can say about that." (via foxsportsmidwest.com)

Perhaps even more interesting is that Greene was the Cardinals' first-round pick in 2005. The director of scouting for the Cardinals at the time was Jeff Luhnow, who is now the Astros' general manager.

Greene, 28, has predominantly been a second baseman, but he's appeared at shortstop, left field and right field this season. He'll certainly need to move from second to get regular at-bats for Houston, as 22-year-old All-Star Jose Altuve mans second.

Greene is hitting .218/.272/.358 with four homers, 19 RBI, 16 runs and nine stolen bases in 197 plate appearances this season.
