The Yankees designated outfielder Darnell McDonald for assignment ito clear roster space for CC Sabathia's return from the disabled list Tuesday night, Sweeny Murti of WFAN reported.

McDonald appeared in just four games for the Yankees, most often as a defensive replacement. He received just four plate appearances with the club. Prior to arriving in New York, McDonald played 38 games for Boston, hitting .214/.309/.369 and making at least one fantastic catch in Fenway's right field.
