  • Eric O'Flaherty: Released by Braves

O'Flaherty (shoulder) was released by the Braves on Friday.

O'Flaherty has been recovering from left shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis during the past month, but was released by Atlanta in order to make room for Anthony Recker on the 40-man roster. During 22 games with the club this season, O'Flaherty posted a 7.85 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP in 18.1 innings out of the bullpen. The left-hander will continue to rehab while looking to join another organization.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Returns to disabled list

O'Flaherty was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with left shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis.

O'Flaherty recently returned from a trip to the disabled list due to a lower-back strain and will again be out of commission as he's now suffering from some shoulder discomfort. It's currently unclear if he'll require more than the minimum 10-day stint, though we'll update his condition as further information becomes available. Jason Hursh was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Activated from DL

O'Flaherty (back) was activated from the 10-day DL on Friday.

Sidelined with a back injury since May 17, O'Flaherty gave up two runs in 1.1 innings on a rehab assignment, but is apparently ready to rejoin the Braves' bullpen. He will be used in low-leverage spots.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Should come off DL on Friday

O'Flaherty (back) will be activated from the DL on Friday, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The 32-year-old will rejoin the Braves' middle-relief corps as a situational lefty, but O'Flaherty's 6.59 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB in 13.2 innings so far this season don't put him on the fantasy radar.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Pitching with Triple-A

O'Flaherty (back) began a rehab assignment over the weekend, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game reports.

O'Flaherty has been sidelined since May 20, but he seems to be nearing a return to the Braves' bullpen. His initial outing with Triple-A Gwinnett was scoreless, although he'll need to improve upon his 6.59 ERA in the big leagues if he wants to garner any fantasy value.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Heads to disabled list

O'Flaherty (back) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday.

The lefty is dealing with a lower-back strain that'll put him on the shelf until at least late May. O'Flaherty had gotten off to a bit of a rocky start this season with a 6.59 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 13.2 innings. The Braves recalled Luke Jackson to take O'Flaherty's spot in the bullpen for the time being, but Sam Freeman or Ian Krol will serve as Atlanta's lefty specialists.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Settling into lefty specialist role

O'Flaherty has given up three runs over five innings to begin the season.

Two of those runs came on Opening Day against the Mets. Since then, O'Flaherty has faced 18 batters over 4.2 innings and allowed just one run on four hits without walking anyone. The 32-year-old functions primarily as a lefty specialist at this point in his career. Last season, he allowed 22 runs over 28.2 innings, so he'll need to keep the good times rolling to hold onto a spot in the Braves' pen.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Contract selected from minors

The Braves selected O'Flaherty's contract from the minors Sunday, MLB.com reports.

It was revealed less than a week earlier that O'Flaherty claimed an Opening Day bullpen spot, so his addition to the 40-man was merely a formality. The 32-year-old left-hander has been lit up over his 70 appearances in the big leagues with three different teams in the last two years, but he's optimistic that offseason surgery to address elbow tension will allow him to rediscover the strong form he showed a few years earlier during his first stint with the Braves.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Makes Opening Day roster

O'Flaherty has been told he will make the Opening Day roster, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The veteran lefty has looked good in camp after undergoing clean-up surgery on a nerve last August and was able to beat out Paco Rodriguez for a spot in the Braves' middle relief corps, although O'Flaherty hasn't officially been added to the 40-man roster yet. He'll likely work in lower-leverage situations to begin the season, but if he can re-discover the form he showed in his first stint with Atlanta in 2009-13, he could quickly become a key setup man in an unsettled bullpen.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Poised to win bullpen spot

O'Flaherty struck out two in a perfect inning of relief during Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers.

The 32-year-old lefty has a 1.86 ERA and 14:2 K:BB in 9.2 spring innings and while he'll still need to be added to the Braves' 40-man roster, O'Flaherty has done more than enough to win a spot in their bullpen. Injuries have limited his innings and effectiveness in recent years, but if he can rediscover the form that allowed him to rack up 60 holds between 2011 and 2012, he could work his way back into a high-leverage role.

  • Braves' Eric O'Flaherty: Healthy after spring appearances

O'Flaherty, who underwent a surgical procedure to alleviate elbow tension in the offseason, has thrown three scoreless innings so far in spring.

This is good news for O'Flaherty, who was plagued by multiple injuries during the 2016 season, leading to an unimpressive 6.91 ERA across 28.2 innings before being shut down. The 31-year-old likely won't make much of an impact in 2017.
