  • Slade Heathcott: Ends playing career

Heathcott announced Monday that he would end his baseball career in order to pursue commercial piloting, Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post reports.

Heathcott, a 2009 first-round pick of the Yankees, saw his lone MLB action with New York in 2015, going 10-for-25 with two home runs and eight RBI in 17 games. The 28-year-old outfielder was released by the Yankees the following May and bounced around the past three seasons, with his most recent action coming in independent ball with the Sugar Land Skeeters.

  • Slade Heathcott: Cut loose by A's

Heathcott was released by the Athletics on Tuesday.

Heathcott, who signed a minor-league deal with the A's in the offseason, was hitting a fine .266/.333/.376 across 30 games with Triple-A Nashville before being cut loose. The 27-year-old will now look to latch on elsewhere as organizational outfield depth.

  • Athletics' Slade Heathcott: Reassigned to minors camp

The Athletics reassigned Heathcott to their minor-league camp Sunday, Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Heathcott's prospect star dimmed long ago, but the 27-year-old still makes for interesting organizational outfield depth thanks to his toolsiness and the improved on-base skills he's displayed in the high minors over the past two seasons. Look for him to open the campaign at Triple-A Sacramento.

  • Athletics' Slade Heathcott: Invited to A's camp

Heathcott signed a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 27-year-old outfielder hit for a .400 average and two home runs in 30 plate appearances for the Yankees back in 2015, but he hasn't returned to the majors since then. He hit .267/.350/.435 in 478 plate appearances split between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants' system last season. Heathcott will be one of many players looking to earn a fifth-outfielder spot in Oakland and doesn't look particularly likely to have the inside shot, though he has a chance to provide respectable performances in a bench role if called upon.

  • Giants' Slade Heathcott: Not invited to camp

Heathcott did not receive an invitation to the Giants spring training, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Although it was initially reported that his minor league deal included an invitation to camp, that is incorrect, and the 26-year-old will start the year at Triple-A.

In his final stop of the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the 26-year-old outfielder slashed .230/.271/.363 in 97 plate appearances. While he will have a chance to prove himself at spring training, he will most likely begin 2017 in Triple-A.

  • Slade Heathcott: Released by Yankees

Heathcott was released by the Yankees on Thursday.

A spot on the 40-man roster was needed for lefty Richard Bleier, and Heathcott was the casualty. The 29th overall pick in 2009, he fared well in a small sample with the Yankees last year (10-for-25 with two doubles and two homers), but limped out of the gate with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season before an injury forced him to the sidelines. Heathcott figures to have several teams interested in bringing him in on a minors deal.

Heathcott (undisclosed) was placed on the seven-day disabled list by Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Chad Jennings of LoHud.com reports.

Heathcott seemed to be in line for a potential promotion to the MLB, but was sent to the disabled list instead. He's hitting for a .230/.271/.310 slash line in 23 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jake Cave will take his spot in Triple-A.

  • Yankees' Slade Heathcott: Optioned to minor league camp

Heathcott was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Heathcott was also reassigned to minor league camp, which doesn't come as much of a surprise as the big league club appears to have all starting outfield spots plus a fourth option filled in Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran, and Aaron Hicks. The 25-year-old could make his way up in the event of injury, but he'll likely spend the majority of the season at the Triple-A level.
