  • Diamondbacks' Tyler Pill: Shipped to Dodgers

Pill was sent to the Dodgers for cash considerations Tuesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Pill reached the major leagues for the first time last season, throwing 22 innings for the Mets. He recorded a 5.32 ERA, walking 10.1 percent of batters while striking out just 16.2 percent.

  • Diamondbacks' Tyler Pill: Returns to action

Pill (elbow) recorded an out and failed to give up a run on one walk while striking out a batter Monday against the Rockies.

Pill made his first spring training appearance after undergoing elbow surgery back in August of 2017. Although he made his major-league debut last season with the Mets, he's likely a long shot to make the Opening Day roster. Pill figures to start the season somewhere in the upper minors with the hope of getting a look in Arizona when injuries create an opportunity.

  • Diamondbacks' Tyler Pill: Inks minors pact with Arizona

The Diamondbacks signed Pill (elbow) to a minor-league contract Monday.

Arizona has already assigned Pill to its Triple-A affiliate at Reno, so it doesn't sound like the 27-year-old will work out with the big club during spring training. Pill, who made seven appearances (three starts) with the Mets last season when a rash of injuries hit the team's pitching staff, finished with a 5.32 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 22 innings. He'll likely function as starting depth in the upper minors for the Diamondbacks, but his lack of a 40-man roster spot puts him low in the organizational pecking order for a potential look in the big-league rotation.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Undergoes surgery on elbow

Pill underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery Wednesday, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

Pill, who was placed on the minor-league disabled list at the beginning of the month, will spend the rest of the 2017 campaign on the shelf. In seven games with the Mets this year, the right-hander compiled a 5.32 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 22 innings.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Sent down to minors

Pill was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Brandon Nimmo (chest) was activated in a corresponding move. Pill's latest stint with the big club was similar to his prior two, as he had a decent outing following by a poor one. For the season, the 27-year-old has a 5.32 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 22 innings with the Mets. He figures to be back eventually, but it's hard to imagine Pill being tasked with anything besides mop-up duty.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Returns to New York

Pill was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

With Zack Wheeler (arm) being placed on the disabled list, the Mets needed a fresh arm to slot into the starting rotation. It's unclear whether that will be Pill, but at the very least, he'll stick around to give the Mets a long-relief option out of the bullpen. In three starts and two relief appearances in the majors this year, the 27-year-old holds a 5.00 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Sent down to Triple-A

Pill was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

He had been in the running to make another start with Zack Wheeler (biceps) on the shelf, but the Mets will instead turn to Rafael Montero to start in his place. Pill was roughed up for five runs over six innings in his spot start against the Dodgers on Wednesday. He'll head back to Las Vegas and could be an option to return as a spot starter should the Mets incur another injury to the rotation.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Beaten up in return to majors

Pill (0-3) gave up six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks -- two of them intentional -- over six innings in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. He struck out six.

Called up to make this start, he got burned by a pair of homers, particularly Yasiel Puig's three-run shot in the fourth. A soft-tossing righty, Pill has not been particularly effective in the majors this season. If the Mets can find an alternative to fill a spot in their injury-ravaged rotation, he'll surely be the first to get bumped.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Officially recalled to start Wednesday

Pill was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

As expected, Pill will be summoned from the minors to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. He'll face off with Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill. To make room for Pill on the active roster, Zack Wheeler (biceps) was placed on the DL and Matt Reynolds was sent back to the minors.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Will start Wednesday

Updating an earlier report, Pill was confirmed as the starter for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

With Rafael Montero unavailable to pitch after being used in long relief Monday night, Pill will be recalled from Triple-A ahead of Wednesday's contest. He posted a 3.48 ERA and 8:3 K:BB in two big-league starts (10.1 innings) earlier in the year. It will be a tough matchup for the 27-year-old, as the Dodgers own a .330 wOBA against righties this season, the seventh-best mark in the league.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Option to start Wednesday

Pill appears to be in line to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Pill is expected to rejoin the big club and step in for Rafael Montero, who was originally supposed to start Wednesday's contest before being used as a long-relief option Monday night. The 27-year-old already has a pair of spot starts under his belt this season, compiling a 3.48 ERA and 8:3 K:BB over those appearances (10.1 innings).

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Could earn spot start

Pill is an option to earn a spot start Monday against the Dodgers, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

With Matt Harvey (shoulder) expected to miss several weeks, Pill could take his next turn in the rotation before the Mets switch back to a five-man rotation. Pill made a pair of spot starts earlier in the season, allowing six runs (four earned) on 14 hits and three walks while striking out eight through 10.1 innings.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Sent down to Vegas

Pill was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas following Saturday's doubleheader, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

This move was made in anticipation of Seth Lugo's return from the DL on Sunday. Pill didn't exactly post stellar numbers during his time with the big-league club, but he figures to get another opportunity in long relief at some point later in the year when the bullpen is taxed.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Hit with second loss

Pill (0-2) allowed five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits while striking out four batters over five innings during Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh.

Through his two starts, Pill sports a 3.48 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 7.0 K/9 over 10.1 innings with the Mets. However, he owns a 5.58 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 31 career games at the Triple-A level, so expectations should probably be kept in check. Pill could also be returned to Triple-A Las Vegas in short order with Steven Matz (elbow) returning to pitch against the Braves on June 10 or 11.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Turns in solid spot start

Pill went 5.1 innings in Tuesday's spot start against Milwaukee, giving up just a single run on six hits and three walks while striking out four.

He was long gone by the time the Mets walked off in the bottom of the 12th, so Pill went unrewarded for his solid work after the bullpen blew a three-run lead for him. Pill's 1.96 ERA and 1.17 WHIP at Triple-A Las Vegas earned him this opportunity in the majors, but his ugly 26:15 K:BB is indicative of a healthy dose of good luck. He'll likely be sent back down soon, although the Mets could try to use him as a reinforcement for their beleaguered bullpen.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Confirmed for Tuesday start

Pill will start Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

With Steven Matz (elbow) and Seth Lugo (elbow) still another rehab start away from rejoining the big club, Pill will be given the spot start against a strong Brewers offense. Although he allowed a run in his only major-league appearance this season, Pill has compiled a a combined 1.60 ERA (albeit with a less inspiring 26:15 K:BB) across 56.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. With Matz and Lugo nearing a return, this will likely be Pill's only spot start for the time being, though he could earn himself another opportunity later in the season if he impresses.

  • Mets' Tyler Pill: Frontrunner for Tuesday start

Manager Terry Collins said Pill is the frontrunner to start Tuesday against the Brewers, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Pill, called upon in the 10th inning Saturday, struggled through his major league debut. After allowing a David Freese single, the righty hit Andrew McCutchen with a pitch and then walked Francisco Cervelli to load the bases. Pill retired Gift Ngoepe for the second out before being pulled in favor of Josh Edgin, who promptly allowed John Jaso to single home the winning run. Nonetheless, with Steven Matz (elbow) and Seth Lugo (elbow) not quite ready to return, Pill may be tasked with a starting role Tuesday. Another candidate may be Josh Smoker, who has also struggled out of the bullpen this season to the tune of an 8.00 ERA over 18 innings pitched.
