Braves' Roberto Hernandez: Designated for assignment Friday
Hernandez has been designated for assignment by the Braves on Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Hernandez has really struggled in his limited work in the Braves bullpen this season, collecting a 8.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in nine innings. The 35-year-old journeyman has pitched for the Indians, Rays, Phillies, Dodgers, Astros and Braves over the past five seasons.

Braves' Roberto Hernandez: Serves up three homers in loss to Brewers
Hernandez gave up five runs on seven hits (including three home runs) while striking out two over four innings in a loss to the Brewers on Thursday. He did not walk a batter.
The 35-year-old dug himself an early hole by serving up a two-run home run to Chris Carter in the first, and that hole only grew deeper as Scooter Gennett and Hernan Perez hit solo shots in subsequent innings. Through two starts, the results have been what most expected from Hernandez (8.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP). It would not be a surprise if he were replaced in the rotation by John Gant (oblique) late next week.

Braves' Roberto Hernandez: Will start Saturday
Hernandez will be called up to start Saturday's game against the Cardinals.
Saturday's start will be Hernandez's first at the big league level in over a year. He posted an 11:3 K:BB in 14.2 innings over three starts after joining Triple-A Gwinnett, but he also allowed 21 hits and nine earned runs over that span.

Hernandez was released from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Hernandez was hoping to parlay his minor league contract with the Blue Jays into a starting role with the big club later in the season, but that never materialized after he scuffled at Triple-A. He posted an unremarkable 4.42 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 71.1 innings, numbers that didn't warrant a promotion. Now 35 years old, it's possible we've seen the last of the right-hander in the big leagues.

Hernandez signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.
Hernandez opted out a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays at the end of spring training, but he will return to the team on another contract. Hernandez originally left because he was seeking a major league roster spot, but could not find one, so he will give it another go with the Blue Jays. Expect him to report to Triple-A Buffalo.

Blue Jays' Roberto Hernandez: Opts out of contract with Blue Jays
Hernandez opted out of his contract with the Blue Jays on Tuesday and requested his unconditional release, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.
Hernandez is seeking a major league roster spot, and that simply was not available with Toronto. Barring any extraneous circumstances, he'll head into free agency where he'll wait for a team looking for a veteran starter or long reliever to pick him up.

Roberto Hernandez: Signs minor-league deal with Toronto
Hernandez signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays on Friday, MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm reports.
The 35-year-old righty posted a 4.36 ERA in 84.2 innings for the Astros last year, although he managed a 1.45 ERA in 18.2 innings of relief, so that might be an indicator on how the Jays plan to use him. As a starter he offers little upside, and as a reliever he would likely be used in low-leverage spots.
