Well, isn't this a marriage of convenience?

The Miami Heat were looking for an extra big man and free agent Ronny Turiaf found himself without a team, when the Denver Nuggets released him over the weekend.

Match-maker, make me a match. Yahoo Sports reports that the Heat will sign Turiaf.
Free agent Ronny Turiaf is finalizing an agreement with the Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.

Turiaf, a 6-foot-10 forward, gives the Heat a strong rebounding and defensive presence as they fortify themselves for a title run. For the Heat, Turiaf gives them another tough, experienced veteran to defend the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The deal will be announced later Wednesday, league sources said.
SI.com reports that Turiaf's agent says the two sides are "closing in" on a contract for the veteran's minimum and a player option for next season.

Later Wednesday, the Heat confirmed the signing in a press release.

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed free agent center Ronny Turiaf. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are very happy to be able to add an experienced veteran center at this stage of the season,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “Ronny’s energy will be a great addition and bolster our front line.”

Turiaf, 29, was acquired by the Nuggets in a 3-team trade that sent center Nene Hilario to the Washington Wizards in exchange for center JaVale McGee. He has appeared in just four games this season after breaking his hand back in August while playing for the French national team.

In a 7-year NBA career that includes stops with the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and Wizards, Turiaf boasts career averages of 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17.9 minute sper game.

Miami currently sits in the Eastern Conference's No. 2 position with a record of 34-11. Their interior has been a patchwork for the last two seasons, and Turiaf will join a frontline rotation that includes All-Star forward Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony, Eddy Curry, Juwan Howard and Dexter Pittman.

The Heat previously worked out free agent forward Rasheed Wallace and free agent Shavlik Randolph as they searched for a 15th man. Center Mickell Gladness was not re-signed after his second 10-day contract expired earlier this month.
