Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith is expected to be listed as day-to-day, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania, as an MRI revealed no structural damage to his left knee. Smith hurt his knee during Monday's 116-112 victory over the Toronto Raptors, leaving the game in the first quarter and never returning.

Here's the play, via Sports Illustrated's Kenny Ducey:

It was a scary situation at the time because there didn't appear to be any contact with his knee. This, then, is excellent news for Smith and the Cavs, who would miss his 3-point shooting and defense if he was out for a significant stretch. Even though Smith has shot just 31.1 percent and 32.7 percent from deep this season, he spaces the floor because defenses respect his ability to get on a hot streak at any time.

While Smith is expected to be considered day-to-day, the Cavs shouldn't necessarily rush him back to the court. His knee has been bothering him for more than a week, and that could have something to do with his poor shooting. If he's out a little while, expect DeAndre Liggins and Iman Shumpert to pick up his minutes. Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue said Monday that he could use Liggins in the starting lineup to keep the bench unit together, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
