Here's a story of two men, a number and $24,000.

Veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha signed with the 49ers in April and Asomugha really wants to wear No. 24 this year. However, there's one problem: someone's already wearing No. 24. That someone is fourth-year 49ers running back Anthony Dixon.

Asomugha wants No. 24 so bad that he recently offered Dixon $24,000 for the number -- and I know what you're thinking, 'Why would anyone offer $24,000 for any number unless it's Kate Upton's phone number?'

Obvoiously, Asomugha really likes 24. Anyway, Asomugha made the offer and Dixon turned the money down. All $24,000 of it.

"We tried to go $24K for 24, but I told him, 'No, I'm going to keep my 24,'" Dixon said, via CSNBayArea.com

Asomugha wore No. 24 throughout training camp because players are allowed to double up on numbers while the roster's at 90-players or 75-players, as it was through most of August.

"When he first got here, he asked me what I thought of him wearing No. 24, and I said, 'Well, you can wear it,'" Dixon said. "I wanted him to look good. He asked if he could wear it so he doesn't look like a bum. Every other number was already taken."

So Dixon and Asomugha shared No. 24 during training camp.

After final cuts on Aug. 31, the 49ers only had 53-players on the roster, which meant no more duplicate numbers. That's around when Asomugha made the $24,000 offer, however, Dixon doesn't sound like a man who's going to budge.

"I worked hard to get that number when I first got here," Dixon said. "I worked hard to get it off somebody else. I've been No. 24 since high school and college. I'm not ready to sell it, yet."

YET. Now that sounds like someone who's ready to give up their number. Asomugha just needs to sweeten the offer. If I were Asomugha, I'd throw-in a guest spot on Scandal, the hit ABC television show starring Asomugha's wife, Kerry Washington. I'd also maybe pay Dixon's rent for a month, it is San Francisco after all, so $24,000 might not cover it.

For now, Asomugha will wear No. 28.
