It's not the Pro Bowl, but winning the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award still had profound meaning for Broncos LB Wesley Woodyard.

The honor, named for the slain Broncos cornerback who played two seasons before being killed in a drive-by shooting on Jan. 1, 2007, is annually given to a Broncos player who best evokes the honesty, openness and cooperation that Williams demonstrated to local media members.

"I wasn't here with Darrent, but guys like Champ (Bailey) told me all about him and the fans around town, he was a good guy and guy that everybody should base their life about, just in the way he gave back to the community and how he cared about his teammates," Woodyard said. "So this really does mean a lot to me."

Past winners include S John Lynch (2007), DE Ebenezer Ekuban (2008), DE Elvis Dumervil (2009), LB Mario Haggan (2010) and CB Champ Bailey (2011). Coincidentally, all are defensive players.

Williams was the kind of player who would talk even after a bad day on the field. And on the one occasion where he didn't -- after being beaten by the Colts for multiple touchdowns -- he returned to the locker room the next day apologetic, and held court for 15 minutes, answering pointed and often painful questions.

Woodyard has rarely faced that kind of individual trial, particularly in this year, which has been a breakout season for the fifth-year linebacker. But he is known for being one of the most forthright Broncos in speaking after difficult defeats over his career.

Yet another Manning honor: A day after winning his league-record -tying 23rd AFC Offensive Player of the Week award, Manning was named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Month for a sixth time, which also tied a league record.

During the Broncos' five December games -- all wins -- Manning compiled a 108.4 quarterback rating on 123-of-174 passing for 1,399 yards with 11 touchdowns against three interceptions. He led the AFC last month in completion percentage, passer rating, touchdown passes and yardage per attempt.

Notes: LT Ryan Clady was sidelined for a second consecutive day, but is expected back next week … KR/PR Trindon Holliday practiced for the first time since spraining his ankle against Cleveland on Dec. 23 … CB Tracy Porter remained sidelined because of a concussion suffered on the first defensive series against the Browns on Dec. 23 … QB Peyton Manning is 1-5 in playoff games in which the kickoff temperature is below 60 degrees. The forecast high for Jan. 12 is 25.
