After a dramatic win against the Colts last week, the Jaguars (1-3, 1-1 AFC South) had a chance to get back to .500 against the Bengals (3-1, 1-1 AFC North). Instead, the offense fell flat and the defense couldn't do enough in a 27-10 loss to the Bengals.

The grades from Sunday's performance are in:

Offense: D

The Jags averaged just 3.7 yards per offensive play for a total of 212 yards on the day. QB Blaine Gabbert completed nearly 70 percent of his passes, but there was no vertical passing threat. Many of his completions were dump-offs to a RB or TE for a short gain. Passing woes are normal, but the lack of a run game was surprising. RB Maurice Jones-Drew only had 38 yards on 13 carries against a Bengals team that came into the game as one of the worst run-defending teams in the league.

Previous week's grade: B+

Defense: C

The defensive performance was average at best against the Bengals. The Jaguars knew Cincinnati would look to get the ball to WR A.J. Green, but there wasn't much they could do to stop it. Green ended the day with six grabs for 117 yards and a touchdown. Some credit should be given to the defense for holding Bengals RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis to 3.1 yards per carry and forcing him to fumble twice, including one that prevented the Bengals from scoring from the 1-yard line.

Previous week's grade: C

Special teams: B-

As always, K Josh Scobee and P Bryan Anger were consistent. Scobee hit a chip-shot 21-yard field goal and Anger averaged 49.2 yards per punt with a long of 61. The Jaguars did give up a big fake punt and run for 48 yards.

Previous week's grade: A

Coaching: C-

The Bengals are a talented team, so there's no shame in losing this one. But it was an overall lackluster effort for the Jaguars. They looked helpless to stop Green-Ellis on a few occasions, and the Jags' run game, a major strength against the Colts, was nowhere to be found against the Bengals. Next week's matchup with the Bears will be crucial. Heading into the bye week at 1-4 is not what the fans in Jacksonville want to see.
