Michael Vick: Teammates 'were wondering what was wrong with my attitude'

With Michael Vick throwing four interceptions for the first time in his career and with the Eagles losing to the godforsaken Browns late in the fourth quarter, you can excuse Philadelphia’s personnel for sending out vibes in the huddle that weren’t so positive.

Especially knowing the quarterback who had played one of the worst games of his career and who barely took any snaps in the preseason was being asked to lead a game-winning 91-yard drive with 6:25 to play in the fourth quarter.

“My teammates, they had that sudden look in their eyes as if they were wondering what was wrong with my attitude, why was I hanging my head,” Vick said, via CSN Philly. “They had never seen me like that before. I just felt like I let them down. It’ll never happen again, regardless of what the game dictates.”

At that point in the game, though, Vick seemed helpless. After Phil Dawson had kicked a 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to give Cleveland a 10-9 lead, Vick responded by throwing an interception that D'Qwell Jackson intercepted and ran back for the touchdown. Hell, maybe the Eagles were wondering if Andy Reid was going to give preseason star Nick Foles a chance at quarterback.

Not quite.

“No, I just thought he had to work through it,” Reid said. “He’s our quarterback, so you’ve got to do that. This was an important game for him to get in [and] play, endure and toughen it out, which he did. That’s what you saw. If you take a positive out of this, you saw good defense and a tough football team that hung in there and trusted each other.”

Trusted each other? Maybe, maybe not.

“If anything, we just came together as a team on this one,” tackle Todd Herremans said. “That’s the biggest thing we’ll pull from this. We’re going to go through adversity and stuff here and there. Even as bad as we played and the mistakes we had, we were still able to get the win.”

Even if there was a little bit of doubt in the star quarterback.
