After a two-season hiatus, Mike Singletary will return to coaching during the upcoming season. As Singletary announced on 670 The Score, a CBS Sports Radio station, he's joining the Rams coaching staff as a defensive adviser.

Singletary last coached with the Vikings in 2013, serving as the team's linebackers coach for three seasons. That stop came immediately after his head coaching gig with the 49ers came to a close. In Singletary's two-and-a-half year reign in San Francisco, his teams went just 18-22, but he still managed to provide some iconic moments -- like when he dropped his pants in front of the team.

So, what can the Rams expect out of Singletary? Well, based off his infamous rant as the 49ers head coach, this is his philosophy.

"I'm from the old school. I believe this: I would rather play with 10 people and just get penalized all the way until we've got to do something else, rather than play with 11 when I know that right now that person has not sold out to be a part of this team. It is more about them than it is about the team. Cannot play with them, cannot win with them, cannot coach with them -- can't do it. I want winners. I want people who want to win."

Hopefully the Rams asked No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff about his desire to win. Otherwise, Singletary might advise the Rams to actually start Case Keenum.

In Los Angeles, Singletary will be advising a defense that features one of the game's most dominant players in Aaron Donald, but ranked 23rd in yards allowed and 13th in points allowed last season. The unit's strength? The defensive line and pass rushing.

The Rams haven't announced Singletary's role with the team, but he should help boost a linebacker group comprised of Mark Barron, Alec Ogletree, and Akeem Ayers. After all, Singletary played linebacker on perhaps the greatest defense in the history of the game, the 1985 Bears, which lost its leader, Buddy Ryan, on Tuesday.
