The Raiders signed CB Brandian Ross off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad, adding depth to an injury-depleted position.

Ross signed last year with Green Bay as an undrafted rookie from Youngstown State and spent the 2011 season on the practice squad. He made Green Bay’s 53-man roster this year but was inactive for the opener then was waived before re-joining the practice squad.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie worked for the Packers during Ross’ first season in Green Bay.

Raiders starting left CB Ron Bartell is on the new short-term injured reserve list and can’t return until the Week 10 game at Baltimore. Starting left CB Shawntae Spencer suffered a sprained right foot Sunday against Miami. On Monday, Spencer was on crutches and had a walking boot on his right foot.

Pat Lee started at Miami in place of Bartell but struggled and wound up sharing time with Joselio Hanson. After Spencer went out in the fourth quarter, Lee and Hanson were on the field together.

It’s unclear who the Raiders’ starting cornerbacks will be this week. On Monday, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said moving starting FS Michael Huff to corner was an option. Huff spent some time at corner during practice Wednesday.

In other moves, the Raiders signed S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to the practice squad. They also re-signed DT Vaughn Meatoga to the practice squad.

Owusu-Ansah has appeared in 14 NFL games, nine with Dallas and four with Jacksonville. The Cowboys drafted him in the fourth round in 2010 out of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Division II school. He has returned 28 kickoffs for 599 yards, averaging 21.4 yards per aattempt, and six punts for 47 yards (7.8).
