The Redskins have confirmed that starting quarterback Robert Griffin III sustained a concussion, as well as a shoulder stinger, in the preseason game Thursday against Detroit.

Griffin left early in the second quarter and will now undergo concussion protocol. Jay Gruden claimed the shoulder was OK, per NFL.com.

"I would imagine, depending on how long he's out, he's still going to be our starter," Gruden added. "But we have to wait and go through the whole process and see how he recovers."

Griffin took some hard hits during his time in the game as the line failed to protect him. But he was hurt on a play in which he fumbled without being touched. He got nailed by several Lions after falling on the ball and remained on the ground for a few minutes.
