FB Darrel Young will miss at least a week because of a hamstring injury, coach Mike Shanahan said. There’s a chance Young won’t play until the third preseason game. With Young sidelined, look for TE Chris Cooley to get reps at FB. Cooley did this early last season before hurting his knee. And it’s one reason he remains valuable. None of the other TEs on the roster can play this role as well as Cooley. He even carried the ball once in practice. WR Josh Morgan (hamstring) missed his third practice, but the Redskins are hoping he can return Monday. WR Anthony Armstrong (shoulder) sat out practice and will likely miss a few more days.

Rookie report: The Redskins invested picks in two linemen who could be on the roster -- third-round G/C Josh LeRibeus and fifth-round RG Adam Gettis. Both have looked every bit like rookies. LeRibeus has worked mostly at LG with the second string and shows good technique with his lower body. But he’s been consistently beaten by better players. He’ll need time, but he does have good technique and moves okay. Gettis moves well and also plays with excellent fundamentals. But he too often allows defenders into his pads and gets stood up, sometimes nearly bent over backward. At 292 pounds, he's on the smaller side, and the Redskins have some big defensive linemen. But getting stood up is an issue he’ll need to resolve if he wants to start.
