Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana's NFL journey started in San Francisco in 1979 and now 34 years later, his son Nate is hoping to start in the same place.

Nate Montana will participate in San Francisco's local pro day on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. Montana is expected to take part in the 49ers' afternoon session at the team's Santa Clara training facilities.

The younger Montana attended the NFL's Super Regional Combine in Dallas in early April and didn't fare well, according to NFL.com's Bucky Brooks, who called the 23-year-old a long shot. "It's going to be hard for him to transition to the next level," Brooks said. "His passes don't have zip. He has difficulty making pro throws."

Nate Montana had an up-and-down college career that included stops at Notre Dame, Montana and Division II West Virginia Wesleyan.

Montana is one of at least two quarterbacks who will be on hand Wednesday. According to the Sacramento Bee, former Cal quarterback Zach Maynard is also expected to attend.

The 49ers' local pro day is open to any draft eligible players that either attended college in the Bay Area or has a hometown within 45 miles of the team's facilities. Joe Montana lives in the Bay Area.
