The offseason is always a a great time to have a debate and one of the most popular NFL debates every year seems to be: Who's the best active starting quarterback?
Now that Peyton Manning's retired , there's not really much of a debate: Even Rob Gronkowski and Richard Sherman agree on the answer.
During a recent interview with ESPN.com, the two were asked to name the best quarterback in the NFL and they both gave the same answer.
"Tom Brady. He just is," Gronk said, before throwing in another name. "Russell [Wilson's] a great quarterback, a franchise QB. Gotta give him credit."
It's easy to see why Gronk voted for Brady: For one, they're teammates, and it also probably doesn't hurt that Brady has thrown Gronk a total of 65 touchdown passes over the past six seasons. Gronk can probably also score free recipes from Brady's $200 cookbook whenever he wants, which probably influenced his vote.
As for Sherman, he could've voted for Wilson, but that's not the route he decided to go.
"Touchdown Tom," Sherman said.
The Seahawks corner had a simple reason for picking Brady at the best starting QB: He has more Lombardi Trophies than any other current starting quarterback.
"Wasn't Kobe [Bryant] the best player in the NBA with his five rings? Tom's got four rings. He gets the nod because of that," Sherman said.
Of course, if that's the benchmark, then the second-best quarterback in the NFL is either Ben Roethlisberger or Eli Manning, who each have two Super Bowl rings (I'll take Big Ben). Then you have Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Joe Flacco, who all have one ring (I'll take Rodgers and Wilson before the other two).
After Brady retires, whenever that happens to be, that's when the debate of best active starting quarterback will actually get interesting.
