Marcus Gilchrist: Let go by Jags
The Jaguars waived Gilchrist on Wednesday.
Gilchrist signed with Jacksonville on Nov. 26, and he's played in a rotational safety role, recording two solo tackles over three games. The Jags promoted safety Doug Middleton from the practice squad to take Gilchrist's place. If Gilchrist clears waivers, he'll be free to sign with another team.

Jaguars' Marcus Gilchrist: Brought in by Jacksonville
Gilchrist signed with the Jaguars on Tuesday, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
Gilchrist signed with the Lions in October but was cut before playing in a game. The 2011 second-rounder was a starter with the Raiders last season, averaging 51 defensive snaps per game and compiling 58 tackles, six pass breakups and three interceptions. Gilchrist has a shot to climb the depth chart, and he could be immediately deployed Week 13 against the Buccaneers since Ronnie Harrison's (concussion) status is uncertain.

The Lions dealt safety Quandre Diggs to the Seahawks this week, leaving a need for depth in an already banged-up secondary. In steps Gilchrist, who logged 58 combined tackles and three interceptions across 16 games with Oakland in 2018. The eight-year veteran is immediately a candidate to see snaps in the secondary.

Gilchrist accrued two tackles (one solo) during Sunday's 35-3 loss to the Chiefs.
Gilchrist logged just 15 defensive snaps after dealing with a calf injury late in the week, but he still finishes the 2018 season tied for the Raiders' team lead in interceptions with three picks in 16 games. He also amassed 58 tackles (40 solo) and six passes defensed while starting at free safety next to Karl Joseph. The 30-year-old Gilchrist is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in 2019, but Oakland could attempt to re-sign him with fellow veteran Reggie Nelson (shoulder) likely on his way out.

It's not clear when Gilchrist suffered the injury, but the safety is evidently questionable for the last game of the season, one week after recording his first interception of the 2018 season. The lack of turnovers has made Gilchrist an unreliable option in IDP leagues, and the same could be said for Dallin Leavitt or Erik Harris if they were forced to start in his place.

Raiders' Marcus Gilchrist: Notches key interception
Gilchrist tallied six tackles and his first interception of the season Monday in the Raiders' 27-14 win over the Broncos.
After whittling the Oakland lead down to 10 points early in the fourth quarter and then forcing a punt, the Broncos had established some momentum, but Gilchrist disrupted that when he picked off Case Keenum with 5:36 remaining. The interception put Oakland in field-goal position, allowing the Raiders to effectively salt the game away. Though this was Gilchrist's best fantasy performance of the season, his lack of consistently big tackle totals caps his weekly upside in IDP settings.

Gilchrist already was sidelined for the Raiders' minicamp back in June, and the injury bug has hit him yet again. However, with Gruden hoping the free safety can make a return to practice as soon as Tuesday, it doesn't appear that the injury is too serious. For now, Gilchrist should be considered day-to-day.

Texans' Marcus Gilchrist: Finds new home
The Texans signed Gilchrist to a one-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
After losing Quintin Demps to the Bears in free agency, the Texans have been in the market for additional help at strong safety. The wait was long, but after Gilchrist was cleared by doctors last week from last year's season-ending knee injury, it was only a matter of time before he found a landing spot. Granted, signing Gilchrist, a long-time free safety, doesn't exactly shore up the hole with the Texans' 2016 starter at the position, Andre Hal, still in the fold. Having said that, Gilchrist should have an opportunity to surpass 55 tackles for the sixth consecutive campaign.

Marcus Gilchrist: Cleared to return to field
Gilchrist (knee) has been cleared by doctors to return to the field, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.
Gilchrist started 13 games for the Jets last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He was released by the team in May after passing a physical, as they had acquired multiple safety options. The 28-year-old should not have a hard time finding a new team, and has already begun scheduling visits for next week.
