T.J. McDonald: Gets tryout Tuesday
McDonald worked out for the Falcons on Tuesday, freelance NFL writer Howard Balzer reports.
McDonald recently was released by the Dolphins before the season due to a crowded safety room, and, as evidenced by this news, has been receiving interest elsewhere. It's unclear if anything materialized from the tryout, but the 28-year-old played 14 games last season, compiling 86 tackles (63 solo) and three interceptions with the Dolphins.

McDonald has been released by the Dolphins.
Miami had a crowded safety room and is evidently looking to go younger at the position by releasing McDonald, who started all 14 games he played for the team last season. The 28-year-old safety should latch on with another team soon enough.

Dolphins' T.J. McDonald: Activated from PUP list
McDonald passed his physical Thursday and was activated from the PUP list, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
McDonald's stint on the PUP list was short, and he'll now resume practicing with teammates. The 28-year-old could reportedly see time at linebacker in 2019 as a result of Miami's overcrowded safety room, which includes Bobby McCain, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Reshad Jones. McDonald's reps in training camp will be worth monitoring.

Dolphins' T.J. McDonald: Not ready for training camp
The Dolphins placed McDonald (undisclosed) on their Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
There were no reports that McDonald was dealing with an injury heading into training camp, so his stint on the PUP list could be short. He did, however, deal with an ankle injury at the end of the 2018 season, so that could be to blame for his absence. In any event, Minkah Fitzpatrick would stand to draw the starting free safety reps with McDonald sidelined.

Dolphins' T.J. McDonald: Could see time at linebacker
McDonald could see time at linebacker in 2019, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
With Bobby McCain lining up at safety rather than cornerback this spring, the Dolphins are seemingly overstocked on talent in the secondary. Along with McCain, McDonald, Reshad Jones and Minkah Fitzpatrick are also proven commodities on the back end, though Jones and his hefty contract might could be on the trade block. Likely as a result of the logjam at safety, McDonald has been working closer to the line of scrimmage and isn't terribly undersized for those duties, given his listed size of 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds. If McDonald does see more action at linebacker in 2019, the role change could translate to more tackle opportunities.

Dolphins' T.J. McDonald: Ends solid season inactive
McDonald (ankle) recorded 86 tackles, five passes defended, three interceptions and one fumble recovery during the regular season.
McDonald stepped up as a playmaker in Miami's secondary before sitting out the final two games of the regular season due to an undisclosed ankle issue. The 27-year-old did appear to have a small chance to suit up Week 16 and Week 17, so it's reasonable to speculate that he'll be able to recover from the injury in time to participate in offseason workouts. McDonald, whose three interceptions in 2018 were a career high, is entering the second year of his four-year contract with the Dolphins.

McDonald (ankle) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
McDonald was a non-participant at practice this week as the likelihood of him playing Week 17 appears minimal. The Dolphins are already eliminated from the playoffs, so it seems unlikely the team would risk playing him on no practice reps in a game that will simply determine their draft pick. Minkah Fitzpatrick should continue to see increased snaps at free safety with McDonald trending downward for the season finale.

McDonald was forced out of last week's game and hasn't been able to return to field since Week 15. With nothing to play for, the Dolphins may be inclined to shut down McDonald in hopes of avoiding any potential additional injuries. Such a decision is merely speculative, however. Miami will likely publicize its plans for McDonald as Sunday inches closer.

McDonald posted three tackles (two solo) and an interception in Sunday's win over Chicago.
McDonald's interception came in the fourth quarter of Sunday's outing. He snagged a pass from quarterback Mitch Trubisky in the end zone to save a score. McDonald now has two interceptions on the season for the 4-2 Dolphins. He'll look to stifle Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense in Week 7.
