Byard and the Bears agreed Sunday on a two-year, $15 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. In Chicago, Byard should settle in as the team's starting free safety as a replacement for Eddie Jackson, whom the Bears released in February. Between stops with the Titans and Eagles last season, Byard recorded a career-high 122 tackles in 16 games, but the historically ball-hawking defensive back recorded just two turnovers (one interception, one fumble recovery). Heading into his age-31 season in 2024, Byard's best years are most likely behind him, but his addition should still help bolster a Bears secondary that was often leaky in 2023.... See More ... Kevin Byard: Being released by Eagles
Philadelphia plans to release Byard in a move that frees up over $13 million in cap space, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Byard joined the Eagles midway through the 2023 season via trade from the Titans, and he recorded a total career-high 122 tackles between the two teams. The veteran safety is still playing at an excellent level, but the cap savings made possible by his release for Philadelphia makes the move a no-brainer for the team. Byard should have no issue finding a starting role elsewhere in the league.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Kevin Byard: Leading tackler vs. Bills
Byard recorded 13 tackles (nine solo) in Sunday's 37-34 overtime win versus Buffalo. Byard has tallied seven-plus total tackles in all of his last six games, but his performance in Week 12 was good enough for a season-high in that category. He's on pace for a career year and projects as a great IDP play in Week 13 when Philadelphia hosts the run-heavy 49ers.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Kevin Byard: Will suit up Sunday
Byard is active for Sunday's Week 8 contest against Washington. Byard joined Philadelphia via a trade with Tennessee this past Monday, and he's been able to acquaint himself with the Eagles' playbook well enough to suit up six days later. The veteran safety should immediately slot into a starting role opposite Reed Blankenship in his Philadelphia debut. Byard was performing well with the Titans prior to the trade, tallying 47 tackles (30 solo) over six contests.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Kevin Byard: Debut likely against Commanders
Byard is likely to play Sunday against the Commanders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Byard was just acquired by the Eagles on Monday, but he reportedly had a strong week of practice and is likely to be active Sunday. Coach Nick Sirianni suggested Byard's snaps could be limited, so he may not make his typical statistical impact.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Racks up double-digit tackles
Byard recorded 10 tackles (eight solo) in Sunday's 24-16 loss to Baltimore. Byard compiled eight-plus tackles for the fourth time through six games in 2023, keeping himself on pace for a career year in that category. He's still looking for his first forced turnover of the campaign, though, and his next chance will come in Week 8 versus Atlanta.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Compiles 12 tackles in win
Byard recorded 12 tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over the Chargers. Byard paced the Titans in Week 2, compiling 12 tackles for the first time since Week 9 of last season. The safety has recorded 20 takedowns over the first two contests of the year and could be in for a career season if he maintains this level of production for 17 games.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Nine stops against Saints
Byard recorded nine tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 16-15 loss to the Saints. Byard found himself in the familiar position of pacing the Titans in tackles while also being on the field for every defensive snap. He's played a significant role in the Tennessee defense across the last six seasons, and that looks likely to be the case again in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Comes away with 12 stops in loss
Byard collected 12 tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 20-17 overtime loss to the Chiefs. Byard logged double-digit tackles for the first time since Tennessee's season-opening loss to the Giants. The two-time All-Pro also would have logged his second interception of the season were it not for a defensive offside penalty against Rashad Weaver in the first quarter. Byard now has 57 tackles (35 solo) and one interception through eight games in 2022, and he'll continue to play a prominent role against the pass and the run this Sunday against Denver.... Titans' Kevin Byard: Starts year with double-digit stops
Byard notched 12 tackles (eight solo) during Week 1's 21-20 loss to the Giants. Byard is off to a productive start in terms of fantasy production, though the All-Pro safety will face a tough task containing Josh Allen and the Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 2. While Byard shouldn't necessarily be expected to carry such high tackling upside on a weekly basis, he's a lock to retain a key role for Tennessee's defense and had five interceptions last season.... Titans' Kevin Byard: Ends season with five tackles
Byard recorded five tackles in Sunday's 28-25 win over the Texans. Byard was on the field for all of Tennessee's defensive snaps for the 12th time in 17 games this season. Though that didn't lead to a full stat line in the regular-season finale, he still ended the campaign with a team-leading 88 tackles. He also posted an impressive 13 passes defended and five interceptions across 17 games -- good for his highest totals since 2017. Byard should remain a key part of the Titans' defense for their upcoming playoff run as well as the 2022 season.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Season-high 10 tackles Thursday
Byard recorded 10 tackles (six solo) in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Colts. With Philip Rivers carving up Tennessee's secondary for 308 yards, Byard was busy racking up tackles on the back end. He set a new season high in tackles and now has 38 over the past five games. The physical safety will appreciate the extra few days to heal up before his team's Week 11 trip to Baltimore.... Titans' Kevin Byard: Makes seven tackles in loss
Byard notched seven tackles (four solo) during Thursday's 20-7 loss to the Jaguars. Byard made plays in coverage during the Week 3 loss but ultimately wasn't able to make up for the Titans' struggles on offense. The fourth-year safety has accumulated 14 tackles (10 solo), one defended pass and one interception in three games.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Big defensive day
Byard recorded five tackles, a sack and an interception in Sunday's 17-0 win over the Giants. Byard picked off his third pass of the season when he stepped in front of Eli Manning's attempt on the Giants' opening drive of the second half. Byard now has three interceptions on the campaign, though that falls well below his mark of eight from last season. He also added his second sack of the season, marking the first time he's recorded multiple sacks in a season.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Picks off second pass
Byard recorded five tackles, a pass defensed and an interception in Monday's 28-14 win over the Cowboys. Byard picked off Dak Prescott in the end zone late in the first quarter, ending a scoring threat. It was his second interception of the season, both of which have come in his past three games. While he isn't replicating his eight-interception campaign of 2017, Byard is proving that he has a propensity to cause turnovers as a member of the Titans' secondary.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Leads team in tackles
Byard recorded 11 tackles Week 4 against the Eagles. Byard led the Titans in tackles in Week 4, nearly doubling his combined total from Weeks 1 to 3. In 2017, he racked up an impressive eight interceptions, and although he has yet to make that same impact in 2018, he was very active in the Titans' Week 4 win over the Eagles. He'll look to build on that heading into a Week 5 matchup against the Bills.... See More ... See Less -
Titans' Kevin Byard: Suffers shoulder injury Thursday
Byard sustained a shoulder injury in Thursday's 40-17 loss to the Steelers, but Titans head coach Mike Mularkey expects the safety to be OK for the team's Week 12 matchup with the Colts, freelance sports writer John Glennon reports. The injury didn't result in Byard missing any time during the blowout loss, as he played 77 total snaps (73 on defense) and finished with a season-low two tackles to go with a pass breakup. With 53 tackles and a league-leading six interceptions on the campaign, Byard has emerged as top-flight IDP in the secondary. The early word regarding his health is encouraging, but Byard will likely need to practice in some capacity during the upcoming week in order for Mularkey and team doctors to sign off on the second-year player being available against Indianapolis....
