  • Lucky Whitehead: Hits waivers with injury settlement

The Jets waived/injured Whitehead (undisclosed) from injured reserve on Friday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Whitehead was battling for a depth wideout role. He has limited NFL experience, with just nine receptions for 64 yards and no touchdowns over 30 games. He's considered a practice squad candidate at this time.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Reverts to IR

Whitehead (undisclosed) cleared waivers and was reverted to injured reserve, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

The Jets haven't released much information regarding Whitehead's injury status. Whitehead seemingly lost out on returning duties during the preseason position battle which likely made the decision to place him on injured reserve not too difficult for New York.

  • Lucky Whitehead: Waived/injured Sunday

Whitehead was waived/injured with an undisclosed injury on Sunday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Whitehead's injury severity is unclear. He was likely fighting for the final receiver slot on the Jets Week 1 roster and his release shouldn't impact the offense much. If Whitehead clears waivers he'll revert to the Jets' injured reserve.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Joins 53-man roster

Whitehead was promoted to the Jets' 53-man roster on Saturday.

Whitehead signed with the Jets' practice squad in late November after a brief stint with the team to start the season, which ended by Whitehead being waived/injured. The 25-year-old is unlikely to have a significant impact offensively, but could be utilized on special teams.

  • Lucky Whitehead: Signs with Jets' practice squad

Whitehead (foot) signed with the Jets' practice squad Friday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Whitehead rejoins the Jets' organization after reaching an injury settlement back in early September. Foot surgery ultimately led to Whitehead being reverted to the team's injured reserve, but it looks like he may be closer to full health now with his re-signing. It remains unclear if New York is planning on using the special teams star on its active roster this season.

  • Lucky Whitehead: Parts with Jets

Whitehead (foot) reached an injury settlement with the Jets on Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Whitehead is now free to sign elsewhere should his broken foot, which he suffered in mid-August, allow him to play. The 25-year-old will likely serve as nothing more than a return specialist if he does manage to latch on with another team.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Reverts to injured reserve

Whitehead (foot) cleared waivers and reverted to the Jets' injured reserve Sunday, Darryl Slater and Connor Hughes of NJ.com reports.

Whitehead, who is out with a broken foot, was waived with an injury designation during final roster cuts Saturday. As expected, he cleared waivers and subsequently landed on the team's IR. He will remain there for the entire 2017 season unless he and the team reach an injury settlement.

  • Lucky Whitehead: Waived with injury designation

Whitehead (foot) was waived/injured by the Jets on Saturday, Darryl Slater of The Star-Ledger reports.

This offseason has not been good to Whitehead, and now he'll have to wait for a likely injury settlement before he finds new employment. Whitehead had surgery on his foot two weeks ago, and there's no clear timeline for his return. When he is healthy, he'll look to make his living as a kickoff and punt return man once again.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Set for foot surgery

Head coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Whitehead will undergo foot surgery this week, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports.

Whitehead has endured an unfortunate past few weeks, from mistaken identity leading to his release by the Cowboys to breaking his foot at practice Monday. The initial prognosis gave Whitehead a 4-6 week recovery, but Bowles wouldn't commit to any sort of timetable, other than to say the return man "could" return at some point this season. With Whitehead out to start the campaign, the Jets will look to Frankie Hammond, Romar Morris and Marcus Murphy to cover kick and punt returns.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Out 4-6 weeks

Whitehead (broken foot) is expected to miss four-to-six weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Whitehead is getting another opinion to see if surgery might speed up his timeline. Either way, he's unlikely to be ready for Week 1 but apparently should be available at some point in September or early October. Whitehead was jostling for position on a wide-open depth chart at receiver, though the return game might still represent his best chance at making a significant contribution to the 2017 Jets.

Whitehead suffered a broken foot in Monday's practice.

Whitehead exited Monday's practice with a previously undisclosed injury. Although surgery is on the table for the former Cowboy, it doesn't sound like his exact treatment plan has been established yet. Regardless, he's expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Injures foot

Whitehead left the Jets' practice early Monday after suffering a foot injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.

The severity of the injury is unknown at this time. Whitehead is currently competing for a depth receiver role with the club, so a prompt return would certainly work in his favor.

  • Jets' Lucky Whitehead: Claimed by Jets

Whitehead was claimed Wednesday off waivers by the Jets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

It's been quite an interesting week for Whitehead, who was cut by the Cowboys on Monday before reports of the 25-year-old being misidentified in a petty larceny case were released, thus clearing Whitehead of all charges. The Jets have elected to bring Whitehead to New York after the false identification cleaned his slate, while they plan to use the reserve wide receiver in the return game as well.

  • Lucky Whitehead: Misidentified in larceny case, cleared of all charges

Whitehead was misidentified in a petty larceny case in Virginia in June and has now been cleared of all charges, ESPN.com reports.

The Cowboys released Whitehead on Monday after reports surfaced earlier in the day that the 25-year-old had committed misdemeanor larceny in June and had failed to appear in court thereafter. "I think we've gotten Lucky a lot of different chances along the way going back to last year. I think we just decided it was time to go in a different direction," said Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones on Monday. However, it has since been reported that Whitehead's information was falsely provided by another individual at the time of the incident, which clears Whitehead of any wrongdoing. While the Cowboys have parted ways with the wideout, the new information that has surfaced means he has one less obstacle to overcome in finding a new team.

  • Lucky Whitehead: Cut by Dallas

Whitehead (hamstring) was cut Monday by the Cowboys, NFL.com reports.

Whitehead's release comes on the same day it was revealed that he missed a scheduled arraignment in court earlier in July for a misdemeanor petty larceny charge he received in Virginia in June. Though Whitehead isn't scheduled to appear in court again until Aug. 10, it seems the Cowboys didn't want to wait around for the legal process to sort itself out. Whitehead's dismissal would seem to represent an organizational vote of confidence in rookie Ryan Switzer, who now appears poised to open the 2017 campaign as the Cowboys' primary return man.
