Donteea Dye: Let go by Buccaneers
Dye was cut by the Buccaneers on Friday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Dye was part of the first round of cuts by the Buccaneers following the team's fourth preseason game. The 25-year-old caught 11 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown with Tampa Bay in 2015, but hasn't done much of anything since.

Dye signed with the Buccaneers on Sunday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
Dye has signed with the Bucs four different times and suited up for just 11 games. He last made an impact in 2015, catching 11 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown. Dye will likely be used in the final preseason game against the Jaguars when the starters rest.

Buccaneers' Donteea Dye: Sees five targets Thursday
Dye brought in two of five targets for 25 yards in Thursday's 13-10 preseason loss to the Redskins.
The third-year speedster saw action on a robust 35 snaps, so his production was somewhat underwhelming relative to playing time. However, Dye did manage to log four receptions in two preseason games after being hampered by an ankle injury earlier in the summer, and he won't have to wait long to find out if his efforts were enough to garner a spot on the final roster. The Heidelberg product appears to have a fighting chance if the Bucs opt to keep six receivers, but could well lose out to Bernard Reedy if they draw the line at five wideouts to open the regular season.

Dye was waived by the Bucs on Saturday, Jenna Laine of ESPN reports.
Dye missed a lot of time in training camp due to an ankle injury, which likely led to him not making the final roster. He recorded two receptions on five targets for 25 yards in Thursday's preseason loss, but did not do enough to make the team. The 24-year-old figures to be a prime candidate to land on the practice squad.

Dye (ankle) brought in two of four targets for 18 yards in Saturday's 13-9 preseason loss to the Browns.
Dye's night could have been even bigger, but a replay challenge of his 22-yard catch in front of the left pylon was denied and the pass was ruled incomplete. Dye played a total of 29 snaps on offense and another two on special teams after missing the first two exhibitions due to his ankle injury. He's likely due for another extended appearance in the exhibition finale versus the Redskins, as the Bucs attempt to finalize the latter portion of the wide receiver depth chart.

Dye missed the Buccaneers' first two exhibitions after suffering an ankle injury in early August, but it appears he'll be ready to go for Saturday's preseason matchup with the Browns. The 24-year-old would likely have a role on special teams and as a fifth receiver should he survive roster cuts.

Dye, who's been hampered by an ankle injury this past week, had an MRI over the weekend, which revealed no structural damage. However, since this is the same ankle that required surgery last December, the Bucs will likely proceed with caution until they're certain Dye is fully healthy again.

Dye has tended to an ankle injury this week, which will keep him on the sideline in the Bucs' first exhibition outing. After the offseason additions of DeSean Jackson and Chris Godwin, Dye is competing for one of the final spots at wide receiver on the depth chart, so a DNP isn't exactly helping his cause. Dye's next chance to take the field will arrive Thursday in Jacksonville.

No specific word was given on when Dye suffered the injury, but given that the Bucs were off Sunday, he apparently got nicked up during Saturday's session. Dye has been competing for a backup receiver role and is also taking reps at kick returner in training camp. It remains to be seen if the injury will keep the Heidelberg product from participating in Friday's preseason opener against the Bengals.

Dye was the first player returning kickoffs at Sunday's practice, Joe Kania of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
The speedster finished up the 2016 campaign on injured reserve after undergoing ankle surgery, but he's been practicing without limitations at training camp. Dye didn't log any receptions last season after hauling in 11 for 132 yards and a touchdown in his rookie campaign, and it seems the Buccaneers are still eyeing him mainly for special teams duty in 2017. He should face competition from the likes of Josh Huff and Bobo Wilson for the returner job.

Buccaneers' Donteea Dye: Undergoes surgery Monday
Dye (ankle) underwent surgery on his injured ankle Monday, ESPN reports.
Dye was placed on injured reserve in mid-December after injuring his ankle in practice. While his procedure Monday required screws to re-set a ligament in his ankle and will sideline the receiver for about six weeks, Dye should be ready in time for summer OTAs.

With Adam Humphries ruled out due to a concussion, the Bucs were looking to add depth at receiver. In 10 games with Tampa Bay during the 2015 season, Dye notched 11 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown on 30 targets, but he'll likely be the No. 4 or No. 5 option at receiver in Week 14 for the Buccaneers.

Dye has been re-signed to the Bucs' practice squad, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
The second-year receiver had originally been called up to the active roster last Wednesday following the placement of Vincent Jackson (knee) on IR, but was ultimately determined not to be ready for game action by head coach Dirk Koetter. Consequently, he was waived last Saturday with the team needing to make room on the 53-man roster for Freddie Martino, who served as the No. 5 receiver versus the 49ers.
