Joe Callahan: Links up with Detroit
Callahan signed with the Lions' practice squad Saturday.
Callahan worked out with the Lions last week and now officially joins the practice squad while Jeff Driskel (hamstring) heads to injured reserve. Kyle Sloter was signed off the Cardinals' practice squad and will serve as the backup to David Blough until Matthew Stafford (back) is ready to return.

Callahan worked out with the Lions on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Lions could be forced to add another quarterback to their roster with usual starter Matthew Stafford (back) unlikely to play on Thanksgiving Day, while primary backup Jeff Driskel is nursing a hamstring injury of his own early in the week. The Lions also put free agent quarterback Taryn Christion through a workout, so Callahan isn't the only candidate. Callahan may have the upper hand, however, given his past preseason experience in Green Bay.

Callahan was competing with Trace McSorley for the third quarterback position on the Ravens' depth chart but ultimately did not come through. The journeyman signal-caller will now look for a new destination.

Callahan was waived by the Buccaneers on Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Callahan went undrafted in 2016 before ultimately earning an appearance with Green Bay in 2017. He was waived by the Eagles prior to Week 1 of the 2018 season and subsequently spent most of his time on practice squads. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Buccaneers in January, but will now be looking for his next opportunity.

Buccaneers' Joe Callahan: Joins Tampa Bay
Callahan signed a reserve/future contract with the Buccaneers on Wednesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Callahan signed with the Eagles last year but was waived at the end of the preseason. The 25-year-old has spent most of his time on practice squads since going undrafted in 2016, but did make one appearance in 2017 with Green Bay.

Joe Callahan: Let go by Philadelphia
Callahan was waived by the Eagles on Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.
Callahan was released alongside fellow quarterback Christian Hackenberg. The Eagles' quarterback room is now made up of Carson Wentz, Nick Foles and Nate Sudfeld, with no confirmation of who will start under center Week 1 against the Falcons. Having spent the majority of his career on practice squads, Callahan will become an unrestricted free agent if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Eagles' Joe Callahan: Will sign with Philly
Callahan agreed to a contract Wednesday with the Eagles, Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com reports.
Callahan has spent the bulk of his professional career on practice squads, but was able to get on the field for his NFL debut with Green Bay in 2017, completing five of seven passes for 11 yards against the Lions in Week 17. He was ultimately cut by the Packers at the end of April and will now head to Philadelphia, where he could battle for the No. 3 job behind Carson Wentz (knee) and Nick Foles.

Joe Callahan: Cut loose by Green Bay
The Packers released Callahan on Monday.
An undrafted free agent, the Division III product fared well enough during the 2016 preseason to make the Packers' final 53-man roster. After he was waived in mid-October of that year, Callahan proceeded to spend time with the Saints and Browns, but landed back in Green Bay by season's end. In 2017, he alternated between the Packers' practice squad and 53-man while also spending time as a street free agent. Callahan finally got his shot on the field Week 17, completing five of seven passes for a measly 11 yards. The offseason addition of DeShone Kizer likely made Callahan expendable as general manager Brian Gutekunst rounds out the 90-man roster afforded NFL teams in the offseason.

Callahan has been tendered by the Packers, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Callahan has spent most of his young career in Green Bay, either on the active roster or practice squad. The Packers will head into offseason activities with four quarterbacks, as Callahan will compete with Deshone Kizer and Brett Hundley for the backup role.

Callahan went 5-for-7 for 11 yards in the Packers' Week 17 loss to the Lions.
Seeing his first regular season action in two years as a professional, Callahan led the Packers' final drive of their 2017 campaign. He has impressed the Packers enough to spend the bulk of the past two seasons with the club, but he did not get a chance to supplant fill-in starter Brett Hundley even when he was struggling during Aaron Rodgers' absence, so it seems unlikely he will be part of the conversation for the backup job behind Rodgers heading into next season.

Packers' Joe Callahan: Won't get look in Week 17
Callahan will remain in a backup role Week 17 against the Lions after Packers head coach Mike McCarthy reiterated Sunday that Brett Hundley would pick up another start at quarterback, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. "Not sure why you'd want to pull the quarterback," McCarthy said a day after Saturday's 16-0 loss to the Vikings. "There's a lot more going on than just the quarterback."
After the Packers were shut out for the second time in Hundley's eight starts in Week 16, there was some conjecture that Callahan might get a look in lieu of the struggling signal caller in the regular-season finale. McCarthy's reaffirmation of his commitment to Hundley closes the door on the possibility of Callahan starting Week 17, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Hundley has a short leash in the contest. Callahan is still awaiting his NFL debut after going undrafted out of Division III Wesley in 2016.

Packers' Joe Callahan: Re-ups with Packers
The Packers re-signed Callahan to the 53-man roster Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
In the aftermath of Sunday's loss in Carolina, the Packers remain on the outside looking in regarding the postseason and could be knocked out of consideration entirely with a Falcons win Monday at Tampa Bay. If the preceding comes to pass, Aaron Rodgers' return may be limited to one game in order to preserve his right throwing shoulder for the future. Shutting down Rodgers would place Brett Hundley in a starting role with Callahan serving as his backup.

Callahan was waived by the Packers on Saturday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
The move comes as no surprise, as the Packers needed to clear room on the 53-man roster to activate Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) from injured reserve. Callahan was promoted from the practice squad after Rodgers hit injured reserve, but never saw any game action behind brett Hundley over the past eight weeks. The Packers would presumably have interest in stashing Callahan back on their practice squad if he clears waivers.

Joe Callahan: Will likely be elevated
Callahan likely will be elevated from the Packers' practice squad to the 53-man roster in the wake of Aaron Rodgers' broken collarbone.
As evidence, head coach Mike McCarthy termed Brett Hundley, "my starting quarterback," and Callahan, "the backup" after Sunday's 23-10 defeat in Minnesota. Assuming McCarthy's statement comes true, Callahan will serve as the team's No. 2 QB next Sunday versus the Saints.
