  • Seahawks' Derick Hall: No sacks as rookie

Hall posted 38 tackles (18 solo) and a pass breakup across 17 games during the 2023 regular season. Hall generated 19.5 sacks over his final three seasons at college, but his skillset and remarkable athleticism didn't translate immediately to the NFL. In fact, failing to record a sack at all is cause for concern. However, Hall is still more than two years younger than fellow outside linebacker Boye Mafe, who led the team with nine sacks this season after an underwhelming rookie season in 2022. Thus, Hall has time to develop his skills and become a complete player in the NFL.

Hall worked through the injury during training camp but ultimately may have never fully recovered from it. Whether he is in danger of missing time won't likely be known until later in the week, before the team hosts the Commanders in Week 10.

The rookie second-round pick will likely start the season off serving in a rotational role behind starters Boye Mafe and Uchenna Nwosu.

  • Seahawks' Derick Hall: Tallies preseason sack

Hall recorded a sack in Saturday's 22-14 preseason win over the Cowboys. Hall beat tackle Earl Bostick, an undrafted rookie, to record his first NFL sack in the fourth quarter, so the play should be kept in perspective. However, the rookie second-round pick also notched two quarterback hits, underscoring how much impact he had. Hall is competing for playing time with second-year linebacker Boye Mafe. As it stands, it looks like Mafe has the edge with one preseason game to go.
