Smith had his suspension lifted by the NFL on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Smith spent time in jail for felony assault in March 2018 and was subsequently released by the Raiders. He remained unsigned before being suspended for the remainder of the season in November. • Raiders' Sean Smith: Released Monday

Smith was released by the Raiders on Monday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The 30-year-old cornerback has 123 NFL starts to his name, but the Raiders were never going to pay his $8.25 million salary for 2018 after he was benched for part of last season. In addition to his declining play, Smith is expected to plead guilty Tuesday to a felony charge of assault with great bodily injury, and he'll be sentenced to one year in jail with three years of probation, per Nathan Fenno of The Los Angeles Times. Even if the sentence is suspended or shortened, it's safe to assume Smith will face a suspension from the NFL. He may struggle to attract interest as a free agent.

  • Raiders' Sean Smith: Questionable for Sunday

Smith (neck/shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Redskins.

  • Raiders' Sean Smith: Back at practice

Smith (neck) was able to log a full practice Wednesday, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Smith tallied two tackles in the Raiders season opener, but also came out of the contest with a neck injury. The issue lead him to be limited at practice last week and miss Week 2's victory over the Jets. However, the team likely was exercising caution here in order to avoid a lingering injury, and he now appears back to full health. Barring any setbacks, the veteran is on track to take the field Sunday against the Redskins.

  • Raiders' Sean Smith: Unavailable for Week 2

Smith (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Smith practiced twice during the week despite the neck injury but was limited on both occasions and was still hurting heading into Sunday, prompting the Raiders to keep him out. With Smith sidelined, rookie first-round pick Gareon Conley could be immediately pressed into a significant role in his NFL debut, while backup cornerback T.J. Carrie also could see more snaps at the position.

  • Raiders' Sean Smith: Limited at Friday's practice

Smith (neck) returned to practice Friday in a limited role and is listed as questionable for Sunday's tilt against the Jets.

Smith was sidelined during Thursday's practice due to a neck injury, so his return Friday, albeit limited, is encouraging for his Sunday status. The veteran recorded two tackles in the team's season-opening win over the Titans. TJ Carrie and rookie Gareon Conley (shin) are in line to see increased snaps should Smith ultimately be unable to go Sunday.

  • Raiders' Sean Smith: Sits out practice Thursday

Smith (neck) did not participate in Thursday's practice.

Smith was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, so this doesn't bode well regarding his status for Week 2. If the 30-year-old is unable to play Sunday against the Jets, look for TJ Carrie and rookie Gareon Conley (shin) to take on larger roles.
