Raiders' Reggie Nelson: Placed on IR
Nelson was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a shoulder injury, Matt Schneidman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Following his placement on IR, Nelson's 2018 campaign will come to an end. The 34-year-old capped off his 11th season with 25 tackles and two interceptions. Nelson will become an unrestricted free agent following this season.

Nelson notched his first interception of the season while the Raiders defense got torched for 42 points, but Oakland held on thanks in part to four forced turnovers. Nelson made a season-high five tackles (three solo) in Sunday's 28-20 loss to the Dolphins.
Nelson surprisingly led the Raiders in tackles with only five Sunday, bringing his season total to 11 (nine solo) through Week 3. He may continue to see an increased snap count if fellow safety Karl Joseph remains sidelined by the lower leg injury he suffered during the first half of Sunday's tilt.

Reggie Nelson: Re-signs with Raiders
Nelson re-signed with the Raiders on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Nelson was likely brought back in order to help teach defensive coordinator Paul Guenther's system. The 34-year-old has had stints with the Jaguars and Bengals in his 11-year career, and will now be entering his third season with the Raiders. He figures to provide depth in the secondary to go along with his mentoring role.

Nelson racked up 89 tackles (60 solo), five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one interception in 16 games during his 2017 campaign.
Nelson tied starting middle linebacker NaVorro Bowman for the Raiders' team lead in tackles with 89, though the former appeared in six more games with Oakland throughout the 2017 regular season. Nelson, who will turn 35 years old in September of 2018, is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. There's a solid chance the Raiders elect to move on from the aging veteran as his abilities in pass coverage continue to regress.

A late addition to the Raiders' injury report Saturday, Nelson apparently made enough progress in his recovery from the ailment overnight to gain clearance for the regular-season finale. This was Nelson's third game with eight tackles, but unlike the past two seasons when he accumulated a combined 13 interceptions, he has yet to snag a pick this campaign. He still makes enough tackles to be a mediocre IDP threat, but he'll need to make some interceptions before he can be considered high-caliber.

Raiders' Reggie Nelson: Eight tackles in season opener
Nelson racked up eight tackles (five solo) and one pass defensed during Sunday's win over the Titans.
Nelson was the second-leading tackler for the Raiders on Sunday, while fellow safety Karl Joseph led the way with nine. Oakland's secondary, which disappointed in 2016, played well enough in Week 1 to limit Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota to no completion longer than 24 yards and zero passing touchdowns. Nelson and crew have a much easier matchup in Week 2 against a lousy Jets offense led by QB Josh McCown.
