Phillies' Aaron Nola: Blanks Brew Crew for eighth win

Nola (8-2) picked up the win Wednesday, scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 victory over the Brewers. He struck out five without walking a batter.

The veteran right-hander was dominant as he delivered his fourth straight quality start and eighth of the season, firing 68 of 93 pitches for strikes. Nola will take a 2.77 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 76:22 K:BB through 84.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Boston.

  • Aaron Ashby SP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Fights control in loss

Ashby (0-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Brewers were downed 2-0 by the Phillies, giving up two runs on two hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out three.

The southpaw was recalled from Triple-A Nashville earlier in the day but had trouble finding the plate, tossing 49 of 91 pitches for strikes, and Ashby eventually paid for the free passes in the fifth inning when Garrett Stubbs led off the frame with a walk before Nick Castellanos clubbed a two-run homer. With Robert Gasser (elbow) the latest Milwaukee pitcher to land on the IL, Ashby figures to get multiple turns in the rotation. He lines up to make his next outing at home early next week against the Blue Jays.

  • Justin Foscue 2B | TEX

Rangers' Justin Foscue: Beginning rehab assignment

The Rangers assigned Foscue (oblique) to the organization's affiliate in the Arizona Complex League for a rehab assignment Wednesday.

The 25-year-old landed on the injured list with an oblique strain shortly after making his MLB debut April 6, but he's now been cleared for game action. Foscue will be eligible to be reinstated from the 60-day injured list next week, but he may require more games in the minors before being cleared to rejoin the big club.

  • Sean Bouchard RF | COL

Rockies' Sean Bouchard: Diagnosed with ankle sprain

Bouchard suffered a right high-ankle sprain during Wednesday's game against the Reds, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Bouchard suffered the injury during the eighth inning of Wednesday's contest when his foot slipped off first base following a sacrifice bunt. He'll almost certainly have to spend time on the injured list, opening the door for Jake Cave to make regular starts in left field for the Rockies.

  • Mitch Garver DH | SEA

Mariners' Mitch Garver: Sitting down Wednesday

Garver isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Garver appeared to break out of his slump Sunday with a 2-for-4 performance against the Angels, but he will now get a breather following Tuesday's 0-for-3 outing. Mitch Haniger will fill in as Seattle's designated hitter while batting seventh.

  • Akil Baddoo LF | DET

Tigers' Akil Baddoo: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Baddoo is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rangers.

Baddoo has already started six games since being called up by Detroit last week, and he's gone 3-for-19 with a homer, two walks and seven strikeouts. Riley Greene, Matt Vierling and Zach McKinstry will start from left to right in the outfield Wednesday.

  • Wenceel Perez CF | DET

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Taking seat Wednesday

Perez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Perez started the previous five games and will head to the bench Wednesday after he went 4-for-21 during that stretch. Matt Vierling will take over in center field while Zach McKinstry receives a start in right.

  • Mason Englert RP | DET

Tigers' Mason Englert: Back in majors

The Tigers recalled Englert from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Just one day after being sent down to the minors to make room for Shelby Miller, Englert will return to Detroit's bullpen as a replacement for Alex Faedo (hip). Englert was lit up for three runs in one inning during his season debut, but he has since turned in five scoreless innings across his last three MLB appearances. He'll likely serve in middle relief while Faedo is on the IL.

  • Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong: On bench Wednesday

Crow-Armstrong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Crow-Armstrong started the previous four games against a right-handed pitcher, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with righty Erick Fedde starting for the White Sox. Cody Bellinger will move to center field while Michael Busch mans first base.

  • Alex Faedo RP | DET

Tigers' Alex Faedo: Lands on injured list

The Tigers placed Faedo on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right hip inflammation.

Faedo has been effective in his first season as a full-time reliever, posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 innings. However, he will now have to sit out at least the next 15 days due to complications with his hip. His spot in the bullpen will be given to Mason Englert, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.
