The McDonald's All-America teams were announed Sunday night, featuring a who's who of high school basketball's elite players.
Leading the way was Detroit wing Josh Jackson and St. Louis forward Jayson Tatum, currently the No. 1 and 3 players on the 247Sports composite ranking. Jackson is undecided on where he will attend college in 2016, and Tatum is headed to Duke. Fellow top-10 recruits to make the roster include De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, both of whom are headed to Kentucky, Markelle Fultz, who is headed to Washington, Lonzo Ball, who is going to UCLA, and Miles Bridges, who will attend Michigan State.
It's worth noting that this class has been hit particularly hard by injury. Harry Giles, considered by many to be the top player in the class and attending Duke in the fall, tore his ACL in November. Dennis Smith, attending NC State and considered by some to be the top point guard, also injured his knee and is missing his senior season.
There are also multiple high-level players unable to play in the game. Kentucky commit Wenyen Gabriel is ineligible, due to this being his fifth year of high school basketball. Thon Maker, one of the more well-known prep players on the continent, is playing hoops in Canada. Other top prospects Omari Spellman, Rawle Alkins and Jonathan Isaac are also not eligible to play. Those players being ineligible has allowed for some somewhat surpising inclusions.
In total, Kentucky has four players in attendance with Fox, Monk, forward Sacha Killeya-Jones, and forward Edrice "Bam" Adebayo. Duke, UCLA, and Michigan State also will have multiple players in attendance at the game.
