Arizona's Rich Rodriguez up for contract extension

Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is up for a contract extension after an 8-5 debut season with the Wildcats. Rodriguez, who signed a five-year, $9.55-million contract in December 2011, finished last season with a 39-36 win over USC, a 54-48 overtime loss to Stanford and a 49-48 comeback win over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl.

Arizona has approved Rich Rodriguez's raise of $225,000 per year and one-year extension. CBSSports.com reported Thursday afternoon that Rodriguez was up for a contract extension after an 8-5 debut season with the Wildcats.

Rodriguez, who signed a five-year, $9.55-million contract in December 2011, finished last season with a 39-36 win over USC, a 54-48 overtime loss to Stanford and a 49-48 comeback win over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl. Arizona's recruiting class finished 45th nationally this week, according to 247Sports.com. 

After previous stops at West Virginia and Michigan, Rodriguez aims to change Arizona's standing as the only old Pac-10 team not to appear in a Rose Bowl. 

Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and UCLA's Jim Mora Jr. are among first-year coaches already with extensions after year one.
