Smith was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.
With Kevin Pillar returning from suspension, the Blue Jays needed to trim down their overcrowded outfield corps. Smith, who made his major league debut earlier in the week, went 0-for-3 with a walk in his brief stint with the Blue Jays. He'll return to Buffalo, where he's slashing .297/.350/.422 with 10 extra-base hits this season.
