Grichuk was optioned to High-A Palm Springs on Monday.

Grichuk has been struggling mightily in May -- slashing just .202/.253/.333 with one homer and 28 strikeouts across 22 games (84 at-bats) -- so the Cardinals decided to send him back to the minors to work on pitch recognition, according to David Solomon of 550 KTRS. It's unclear how long Grichuk will be working things out in the minors, but Jose Martinez -- who was activated from the DL in a corresponding roster move -- should see the bulk of the starts in left field in his place. Tommy Pham should also get some looks.
