Cubs' Derniche Valdez: Gets $2.7 million

Valdez signed with the Cubs for $2.7 million Sunday, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports.

A 16-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic, Valdez is a well-rounded player with a chance to hit for average and power. Listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, he is an above-average runner now, but it would likely be his bat that pushes him up dynasty rankings in pro ball, although we won't know if he will live up to expectations until he faces pro pitching for the first time.
