Wood has pitched just one-third of an inning so far in August.
The Cubs recently added Aroldis Chapman, Mike Montgomery, Joe Nathan (who was DFA'd on Friday), and Joe Smith to their bullpen, so someone had to lose playing time. Right now, that someone appears to be Wood, who made 52 appearances through July 31. With a 2.68 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, Wood isn't done yet, but he was likely getting leaned on too much, so his opportunities may continue to dwindle over the season's final months.
