Shipley was called up from Triple-A Reno and will start Monday in Milwaukee.

Shipley no longer looks like a potential No. 1 or No. 2 starter, which was the presumed upside when the Diamondbacks took him with the No. 15 pick in the 2013 draft. However, he has turned into a very solid contact-oriented pitcher in the difficult conditions of the Pacific Coast League, posting a 3.70 ERA and 1.28 WHIP despite just a 15.5 percent strikeout rate. The Brewers have been a bottom-two offense in baseball over the last month (by wOBA and wRC+) so Shipley could have immediate success Monday. If he pitches well, there's a chance the Diamondbacks could keep him in the rotation over Zack Godley once Zack Greinke (oblique) returns next month.
