Herrmann will start at catcher and bat second Sunday against the Phillies.
Herrmann won't be on track to pick up regular at-bats so long as the fellow catchers Chris Iannetta and Jeff Mathis are healthy, but he may offer more offensive upside than his competition when he enters the lineup. Though he's only batting .170 over 94 at bats this season, Herrmann has produced six home runs.
