Diamondbacks' Jimmie Sherfy: Added to 40-man roster

Sherfy was added to Arizona's 40-man roster on Friday.

The 24-year-old righty reliever is knocking on the door of the big leagues, so it is not surprising that the Diamondbacks wanted to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He posted a 42.5 percent strikeout rate and 6.9 percent walk rate at Double-A, but those rates were noticeably worse after a promotion to Triple-A. If he can improve his control in 2017, he could be a stealth candidate for saves at some point, as the Diamondbacks do not have an established closer on the active roster.
