Diamondbacks' Matt Stites: Designated for assignment

The Diamondbacks designated Stites for assignment Wednesday.

After acquiring right-handed pitcher Cody Hall from the Giants, the D-Backs needed to open a spot on the 40-man roster, and ultimately Stites was the fall guy. While he'll likely begin spring training with minor leaguers, Stites has 48 major league appearances under his belt, posting a 7.13 ERA, 1.632 WHIP, and 32:21 K:BB in 41.2 innings.
