Dodgers' Carl Crawford: Will not start against Rays this week

Manager Dave Roberts said that Crawford will not start against the Rays this week because the games are all on turf, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Turf fields are especially strenuous on players' backs, and with Crawford just recently coming back from a back injury, Roberts opted to keep the outfielder off the unforgiving surface for the time being. He may return to the lineup over the weekend in Toronto if the Dodgers want to give him a start or two on their turf diamond, but Crawford's best chance to return to the lineup will come Monday when the Dodgers return to Los Angeles to face the Mets.
