Van Slyke will have to compete for his usual platoon role in left field with the newly-signed Franklin Gutierrez this spring, the Los Angeles Times reports.
It was recently reported that Van Slyke had fully recovered from the wrist surgery that cost him a good chunk of the 2016 season. Now that the club signed a lefty masher in Gutierrez, there will be competition this spring to see who makes the 25-man roster.
