Gaviglio racked up four strikeouts over two innings in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Blue Jays, giving up an earned run on two hits.

Gaviglio was razor-sharp, throwing 25 of his 30 pitches for strikes and getting immediately ahead on seven of the eight hitters he faced. His one mistake led to a 407-foot solo home run by Justin Smoak, but the 26-year-old righty was otherwise stellar in his big-league debut. Gaviglio projects for a solid stretch of time with the Mariners given the myriad of injuries to the pitching staff, and the possibility remains he could see a turn or two in the starting rotation.
