Karns (forearm) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and then designated for assignment Friday by the Orioles.
Karns landed on the shelf April 9 due to a right forearm strain, and even though he's finally returned to health, the Orioles have elected to send him to waivers rather than try to find room for him on the 40-man roster.
