Jackson was signed by the Padres on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

Jackson was granted his unconditional release by the Marlins on June 6 after appearing in eight games for the club. During 10.2 innings of work in 2016, he gave up seven earned runs and 13 hits while striking out seven and allowing opposing batters to hit .317 off him. Jackson will provide organizational depth for the Padres but will need to regain his form in order to be a useful acquisition at the major league level. According to Dennis Lin of the Union-Tribune, Jackson was signed to a minor league deal and he will likely be assigned to Triple-A El Paso initially.
