Jaso signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Pirates on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
Jaso served mainly as a designated hitter for the Rays last season, but is expected to shift over to first base, where he has played just one game in the majors. His career .274/.368/.429 slash line against righties might give Jaso the edge over Mike Morse and Jason Rogers for playing time out of the gate, but top prospect Josh Bell offers more upside than any one member of that underwhelming trio, and is therefore the better endgame target.
